I don’t know about where you live, but in San Diego we’ve had a strange summer, weather-wise. The June gloom lasted well into August, and only in the last two weeks has the sun really come out to play. Luckily, however, it came out when we needed it. The next few posts will contain some of the images from our summer so far. Hope your summer has been a good one, friends.
This is from S + K’s engagement session at Torrey Pines Reserve. It’s a beautiful place made even better by a fun couple.

Earlier in the year we were contacted by a family who’d be visiting San Diego for the first time from Louisiana, and they had a great idea to do a family session while on vacation! We met up at Windansea on an overcast June day. While we were a little bummed about the gloomy skies, our visitors were loving it! Compared to the heat and humidity of their hometown, they were in heaven.

Mom and Dad were high school sweethearts and were naturals in front of the camera. Their two boys were fascinated by the surfers and other beachgoers and added unpredictable fun to the shoot. From our session that day, here are a few images we wanted to share with you. Thank you, S Family, for finding us, and we hope to see you in New Orleans someday. Laissez les bons temps rouler…

Finally, wanted to share this outtake, since it has a couple of the surfers by whom the boys were so mesmerized.

Still working backward, going through photos from a little bit earlier to share with you! In April we photographed D + J’s wedding in Poway, CA. It was a great spring day, and this couple kept us laughing. Their families were ready for fun, too! A couple of times the bride’s cousins took over the dance floor with some of their moves. Below, you’ll see a shot Dustin caught when one of the cousins was parallel to the dance floor.
Thank you, D and J for sharing your day with us!

Back in May we took a couple of days for a little break in Newport Beach, just an hour and a half north of our home in San Diego. We spent some time along that part of the coast, checking out Balboa Island, Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach. It was nice to have a couple of days to recharge and get away. When I look at these photos, I can take a deep breath, reset and go back for a bit. Here’s to the days of summer!

We’ve been away for a bit, a sign that we’ve been busy! That just means we have many images to share with you, friends! Before we get into some sneak peeks and such, we thought we’d share with you a taste of our tropical garden. On the few occasions that we haven’t been shooting lately, Dustin has diligently been tending our plumerias and other tropicals. Hopefully we’ll have more blooms to come!
And get this–these photos weren’t taken with our regular gear. After putting up with a cracked screen on his iPhone for months, Dustin got his new iPhone last week, and these images came from the phone! Not bad for a camera phone eh? We’ll be back again soon!

It’s been busy, friends, real busy! Just wanted to post a couple of quick images from an engagement session last week. These two kept us laughing the whole time, and I can’t wait to post more from their session!
Be back soon.

Since we are in the business of photographing weddings, today we thought it only fitting to share some of our own. Today is our third wedding anniversary, and I wouldn’t trade any minute of the last three years for anything. In 2007, we had a destination wedding on Maui, in our beloved Hawai’i. We arrived on April 7th for our April 13th wedding, and within an hour of landing on the island, disaster! A backpack with our laptop, jewelry, my engagement ring and both our wedding bands was stolen. Gone.
In 5 days we scrambled to get a wedding band made for me (everything in the stores was too small for my fingers
), and my mom and aunts provided jewelry that I wore for the ceremony. Our friends brought a wedding band for Dustin from San Diego and gave us a spare laptop to use so that we could access all the wedding details we needed online. They made the whole week a big old party, even with the craziness at the beginning.
It was an unusual way to start our married life together, but in the end, it was simply an adventure, the first of many together. It was a reminder of what was most important, and our friends & family made sure the rest of the celebration was not dampened at all. It was one of the best weeks of our lives!
As always, mahalo for stopping by, friends! Today, we hope you celebrate love.

Still finishing up some wedding photos, so I thought I’d sneak in a post of more personal work before we get to the wedding posts! Last weekend we dropped by the Restaurant at The Pearl in Point Loma, to have dinner and check out this unique dining spot. We had heard of their ‘dive-in’ (movies while you float in their pool), but we wanted to check out their food, as well! I’m happy to report the food was delicious and the restaurant was fun!
It’s got a cool, retro vibe, with an easy, fun style. There were hammock chairs that I didn’t get to try out this time, but the poolside dining was relaxing and unique. After stuffing ourselves at dinner we stayed in the hotel/restaurant lounge for a little bit and played Jenga.
Thanks for stopping by our blog, and I hope you enjoy the photos!
If you want to visit:
Restaurant at The Pearl
1410 Rosecrans Street
San Diego, CA 92106

Part of the poolside dining area. However, mom said not to swim at least 3o minutes after eating!

And of course, the FOOD! First, bread from Con Pane:

Winter squash bruschetta:

Pan-seared white shrimp:

And the Agave Blossom Cocktail:

We’re always looking for new places to try–e-mail or leave us a comment if you have any suggestions!

So this post was scheduled for about 2 weeks ago, when it was still fresh in my mind. Intentions and reality, however, are a vastly different thing, my friends. I do believe in ‘better late than never,’ so I still wanted to share some of these images. These are from a shootout put on by Photog Shootout in which Dustin participated, complete with hot model and hot car. They met up in downtown Las Vegas and got into a retro groove. These are processed a little differently than our normal style, but we think it’s always good to mix it up a bit.
As always, thanks for stopping by, and we’ll be back on the blog with a lovely spring wedding soon!

Here are just a few more images from the sweetheart session on the Strip. I promise, we’ll definitely get to Dustin’s “Old Vegas” photo session this weekend.
You won’t want to miss that, especially with the hot classic Corvette! Have a great weekend, and catch you at the next blog post!
